The Owners | Melissa & Erica
Melissa and Erica met while working at another salon and immediately found that their personalities balanced each other. After a few years and endless discussion about what they wanted for their clients and their own personal futures, they decided to find a new salon home that met their ideals. On and off they searched for the perfect place and there was always something missing. Realizing they weren’t willing to sacrifice any part of their dream The Bowery Salon and Beauty Bar was born. It took some time and a lot of hard work but after a move across the river, and some changes to the team it truly feels like The Bowery has hit its stride.
I have been doing hair since 2010. I always loved helping people and finding inspiration in the colors that surround me and have found a career where my passion for both shines through. There's no hair that's too short, long, big, fine, or wild for me. I love being a stylist and having the opportunity to highlight the inner beauty in all of my clients so they look and feel amazing when they leave my salon.
After working in a few different fields, florist, bank manager and restaurant manager to name a few, I realized that while I was working with people I wasn't feeling like I had yet found my niche. I still wanted to work with people but I also wanted to be creative, I wanted a career that had flexibility and no ceiling.
I was reminded by a few close to me that when I was in high school I had a tendency to cut and color my friends hair (to the chagrin of their parents) and that maybe I should look in that direction. I decided to attend The Orlo in Albany, NY and I have never looked back. Being a part of this industry since 2010, having the opportunities I've had, I know I'm doing what I'm supposed to. I love my clients and have a never-ending eagerness to continue my education and create.
I have entered the beauty industry professionally in 2010, licensed in Cosmetology and Aesthetics, and certified in Makeup & Donna Bella Extensions; there is just so many opportunities in this field. I would not think of doing anything else!
I love the creative freedom, the people and stories I encounter, and all the talented professionals I can meet and learn from! I love creating diverse looks for everyone, especially when someone wants to step away from their “norm.” Visit my webpage for more! www.stylistchristig.com

I have always had a passion for hair and makeup, and I am fortunate enough to be able to say that that is what I do as a career! I absolutely love to meet people and help them feel better about themselves. I love to cut and color hair in a way that is the most flattering for my clients! My passion for makeup is endless, and I love being a part of someone’s important day, no matter how big or small. *Available for weddings!*
Ever since I can remember I’ve always had a passion for the industry. Growing up I loved going to visit a hair salon, it was so exciting for me. I loved getting all dolled up and watching the stylist do it; I was always mesmerized wondering how they did it. It wasn’t hard to choose a career path because I could never keep my hands out of mine or my friends hair. I love doing hair and the creativity of it.
Creating bright blondes, fashion colors, men and women’s styles and updos are a few of my favorite things. Helping people feel at their best and most beautiful is what I love about my career and the industry. It is the most rewarding part of my job!
I think it’s important to find a hairstylist that you can connect with, and equally love your hair. I’ve been in the industry 5 years, you truly learn something new everyday. I’m so grateful to have the career I have. I first worked as a receptionist at a salon to get my foot in the door. I would sit and watch the stylists and I knew I wanted to do hair! I assisted for about a year, and now I’m a booth renter. I love the story that goes behind a head of hair. The random deep conversations. A lot of clients open up to me on their first visit. Relationships, family, or how they may have neglected themselves and put their children first. I love that aspect of giving a little makeover. Not only with their hair but some extra confidence! My favorite quote is “don’t let anyone come to you without leaving happier”. I love everything about hair, but I really love explaining how to style. Having the client hold the curling iron and teaching them tips and tricks; I tell new clients to bring their personal tools with them so I can see and explain solutions to help!
